Daniel Tay

Daniel Tay is a former financial planner turned advocate for sustainable living and financial frugality. After achieving financial independence and retiring at the age of 40, Daniel adopted a freegan lifestyle – prioritising minimalism, resourcefulness, and conscious consumption over material accumulation.

Driven by a passion to turn values into action, Daniel co-founded Singapore’s freegan and food rescue communities, championing efforts to reduce consumer waste and raise awareness about money-wasting habits. His advocacy work promotes a holistic view of financial well-being, blending sustainability, frugality, and social responsibility.

Daniel is widely recognized as a thought leader in both financial and environmental circles, with over 100 media features in platforms such as Channel NewsAsia (CNA), AsiaOne, and Nas Daily. He is frequently sought after for talks, panels, and community workshops, where he shares insights on financial stewardship, minimalist living, and the psychology of saving.

Today, Daniel dedicates his time to volunteering with social initiatives, continuing to inspire others to live with freedom, frugality, and intention. Through his writing, public speaking, and hands-on community work, he encourages individuals to rethink consumption and embrace a more mindful, financially resilient lifestyle.
